When it comes to constipation, the colon's response to activity is key. Having good overall muscle tone is essential for regular bowel movements, and the muscles of the abdominal wall and diaphragm play a major role in the defecation process. If these muscles are weak, they won't be able to do their job as effectively. The jury is still out on this one, as there are so many types of exercise and levels of intensity that it's impossible to say that all exercise causes or prevents constipation.
